Cookies and analytics choices

Necessary storage
Clerk uses cookies to sign you in and keep your session working. These include session and session-update cookies such as __session, __client and __client_uat. Their duration depends on the session and Clerk configuration. Blocking authentication cookies can prevent sign-in.
During family creation, Kivalio keeps a temporary request key in this tab’s session storage so a retried request does not create another family. It is removed after successful creation or when the tab’s session ends. Cloudflare Turnstile checks registration requests to help prevent automated abuse.
Appearance
Your System, Light, or Dark appearance choice is stored in this browser until you change it or clear browser storage. It contains no account or family information. Without browser storage or JavaScript, the gallery follows your device appearance.
Your analytics choice
Optional analytics helps measure feature use and performance. It is separate from the storage needed to sign in. You can keep optional analytics off and still use Kivalio.
Your choice is stored in this browser for 180 days. You can change it here at any time. Clearing browser storage removes the choice; optional analytics then stays off until you allow it again. If this browser cannot save the preference, a choice applies only to the current page.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals turn optional analytics off even if you previously allowed it. Hosting and security logs needed to operate and protect the service are separate.
What optional analytics includes
When configured and allowed, limited feature-use, timing and fixed error-category events go through Kivalio to PostHog with pseudonymous account and family identifiers. This does not include genealogy, names, contact details, search text, URLs, arbitrary error messages, automatic click recording or session replay.
An optional Cloudflare performance beacon is limited to plain public landing pages. It is not loaded into the family directory, timeline, sign-in forms or pages with query parameters. The analytics choice does not change who can see your family records.
